What Color is the Ocean? Perception as Portrait
is a meditation on color perception and belonging/ migrations.

The ocean is at once global and local.
All oceans have the same form: a body of water with a horizon line. And yet, they have their own identities, histories and colors.

We tend to think of the ocean as blue. But what kind of blue is it? Ultramarine, cobalt, cerulean, or turquoise? Or perhaps green? Maybe purple even?

Oceans are viscerally connected to stories of departure/arrival; rootedness/uprootedness; immigration; travel/movement; as well as discovery and change.

WCIO leads participants to a deeper perception of color while stimulating a meditation/reflection/sharing on experiences of immigration/departures/arrivals/and travel.

Participants’ sharing then becomes a point of departure for an artwork/installation.
